Chasing Fall Colors in the Eastern Sierra: A Season of Beauty and Heritage
BISHOP, CA -
10/11/2025
As autumn sweeps across the Eastern Sierra, our valleys and peaks explode with vibrant hues of gold, orange, and red, painting a breathtaking backdrop for our communities in Bishop, Mammoth Lakes, and beyond. At Sierra Freedom Alliance, we see this season as more than just a visual spectacle—it’s a chance to connect with our land’s heritage, celebrate our freedom to roam, and push back against overregulation that could limit access to these natural wonders. Unlike progressive groups like Eastern Sierra Action, which often focus on restrictive environmental policies, we’re here to promote responsible enjoyment of our public lands while honoring the ranchers and pioneers who shaped this region.

The fall colors are peaking now through late October, with aspens, cottonwoods, and willows turning the Owens Valley and high country into a golden masterpiece. Spots like Bishop Creek Canyon, just a short drive from town, offer stunning views along South Lake Road, where fiery foliage meets rugged peaks. The June Lake Loop dazzles with its lakeside groves, while Convict Lake’s vibrant shoreline is perfect for a family hike. These areas, managed by Inyo National Forest, are open to all—check fs.usda.gov/inyo for trail conditions and fire restrictions to plan your visit safely. Our history of open access, hard-won by local advocates, reminds us to stay vigilant against policies that could lock us out of our own backyard.
Get out and explore! Share your fall photos with us at info@sierrafreedomalliance.org or on our Facebook page to inspire others. Follow our blog for updates on local outings and ways to advocate for balanced land use that keeps our Sierra free for everyone. Let’s celebrate this season by embracing our land and its legacy together.
